Assessment Information

The ACT is administered to all Juniors in February. Every Junior is automatically registered to take the test. The ACT will begin at 8 am the morning of the district-wide testing day and students will be assigned to test in their Pioneer Time room, unless they need an accommodation.

Students should have taken the Pre-ACT as a freshman and can use those results to see which areas to focus on for ACT Prep or take one of the practice tests in the links below.

The ACT is administered via computer, so be sure to bring a fully charged and updated laptop and a power cord when you arrive for testing.

ASVAB Testing Site

The ASVAB is administered to any sophomores or juniors who sign up in August on the high school district-wide testing day in October and to sophomores and seniors who sign-up on the high school district-wide testing day in February.

ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery) is a multiple-aptitude test used by the U.S. military to assess a person's developed abilities and predict their potential for success in various military and civilian occupations.  It is now offered only as a computer-based adaptive test. It is not a pass or fail test, but rather provides a range of scores that help match participants to careers paths for those that might be considering the military (Full-time, Reserves, or National Guard) after high school.

In March and April, mandatory State Assessments are given in language arts and mathematics to all sophomores and all juniors complete state assessments in science. 

State assessments are completed using the Kansas Interactive Testing Engine (KITE) software, which is automatically loaded onto all district-managed student computers. Your student device must be updated fully to run KITE; make sure to restart your device routinely to catch all updates.

If you use a personal device, please make sure you have the most current edition of KITE installed on your device.  

The ACT WorkKeys is administered to all Seniors on the high school district-wide testing day in October. The ACT WorkKeys assessment is given to obtain National Career Readiness Certification. Depending on a student's score, they could achieve Bronze, Silver, Gold, or Platinum Certificate Levels.  Many businesses in the area and across the nation use this certification process to help them select which employees to hire and decide where on the pay scale to put them.  

Testing will be completed on the student's district-managed student device; make sure to bring a fully charged laptop and power cord.

WorkKeys Results and NCRC Certificates should be available in December or January when they are processed by ACT.

Why Take the WorkKeys

The Pre-ACT is administered to all Freshman in October on the high school district-wide testing day.

Results will be dispersed in pioneer time in December or January when they arrive from ACT.

You will receive your testing booklet with your results so that you can use it to prepare for future standardized testing.

What you need to know about the Pre-ACT 

The PSAT/NMSQT will be administered to pre-registered Sophomores and Juniors on the October district-wide testing day. The PSAT/NMSQT is digital, so all students will need to bring a fully charged and updated device. 

You must sign-up below, by the listed deadline, to participate in PSAT this fall, it is only available for sophomores and juniors.

PSAT/NMSQT stands for Practice SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.

Results will be available from College Board just a few weeks after the test date and can be sent directly by text if students sign up for text notification on the day of the test.

Students will receive room assignments in the first week of October in their school email.

Why students should take the PSAT/NMSQT

A variety of Advanced Placement classes are offered at West High: AP English Language and Composition, AP Literature and Composition, AP Statistics, AP Calculus AB, AP United States History, and AP European History.  

All students in AP classes must create their own college board account. Sign in to myap.collegeboard.org with an existing account used for AP, PSAT, or SAT or create a new account if you do not have one.  Your AP Teacher will provide a join code to add the AP course to your profile and verify all personal information.  Be sure to use your personal email so you have access to scores and information after leaving high school. 

Deadline to sign-up to take the AP test for all classes is November 11, 2026.  Email nrayl@usd259.net and your AP teacher to confirm your decision to take the AP test and make sure your $40 deposit is paid to the bookkeeper in E Hall.  The current cost of AP exams is $99, if you are on free or reduced fees the cost is $53.  A non-refundable deposit of $40 is due by November 11 or your AP test will not be ordered.  The remaining balance is due by April 1, 2027.  

All AP testing requires the use of your computer and the testing dates for 2026-2027 courses are below. If you are using a personal device, be sure to download the BlueBook testing software well before your test date.

The Seal of Biliteracy is an official award given by the Kansas State Department of Education to high school seniors who show proficiency in both English and one or more additional world languages and is an endorsement of educational excellence for students who are fluent in two or more languages.  

Seniors who have passed one of the qualifying English assessments will be invited in December to sign-up for a STAMP test in a second language that they will take in February on the districtwide assessment day. The cost of the STAMP assessment is covered by the school at no cost to the student.

If a student is interested in qualifying for the Kansas Seal of Biliteracy, here are some of the qualifying assessments: Kansas State English Language Arts Assessment (taken in 10th Grade; 3 or higher), the ACT (20 or higher on English or Reading), AP Language test (3 or higher), and the KELPA (3 or higher in all four subtests).
